GIANT PUPPETS AND MORE AT ART JAM!

I had an incredible summer at the Margaret Hennigar Library in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, running Art Jam Day Camp for the second year!

This year, inspired by Bread and Puppet performances that I was lucky enough to see last fall in Glover, Vermont, we made giant puppets!

We made a librarian puppet...

and a lifeguard puppet...

We also put on plays...

Made a bunch of comics...

(we produced these zines!)

Painted watercolours by a pond...

Made a "tree of life" collage...

And so much more!

Art Jam Day Camp was made possible by South Shore Public Libraries and a grant from Nova Scotia Communities, Culture and Heritage.

Art Jam Day Camp
at the Bridgewater Library

I am currently running three week-long arts day camps that explore Bridgewater's green spaces. The camps are free for kids due to the generous support of TD Bank, Atlantic Superstore, Gow's Home Hardware and Staples. Each week is a different age group. Here are images of the oldest kids...

QUILT MAKING

MOMS MAKE QUILTS

I received a grant from Nova Scotia Communities, Culture and Heritage through the Family Support Centre in Bridgewater to run a Baby Quilt Making Workshop for moms and grandmas.

This is what we've been working on...

BRIDGEWATER YOUTH QUILTS

This fall, I am coordinating and facilitating two free after-school Collaberative Quilt Workshops for kids at the Bridgewater Elementary School and High School through the Second Story Women's Centre and with the support of Nova Scotia Communities, Culture and Heritage.

We are making a "Peace Quilt at the Elementary School" to address issues of bullying and to promote positive social engagement, and female students at the High School are making a "Baby Quilt" and addressing issues that face teen girls.

LUNENBURG MEMORY QUILT

Last winter, I coordinated and facilitated a Collaborative Quilt Workshop with students at the Lunenburg Academy. Through this project, Second Story Women’s Centre partnered with the Lunenburg Academy, the Academy Foundation, the Mahone Bay Quilters Guild and other local quilting groups.

Inspired by memories collected from the community, wmade patches for a Memory Quilt in commemoration of the closing of the historic Lunenburg Academy.

The project  allowed students to process the closing of the school, transition to their new school and connect with the history of their community.

COMICS JAM!

I just finished an amazing comics making workshop with teens at the Bridgewater Library. The workshop was a Narrative Art Workshop as part of a three part series called "Telling My Story", funded through the Cultural Opportunities for Youth grant from Nova Scotia Communities, Culture and Heritage.
